Marsha Wilson, MA, TESL

Marsha began her career as an Infant Development Consultant in a community-based Family clinic in Ontario, where she started her journey in supporting families by educating parents as they cared for their complex infants and toddlers. Marsha holds credentials in Early Childhood Education and Teaching English as an Other Language and has a Master's degree in leadership. She did her thesis on the design and implementation of support groups for families living with FASD. She recently retired from Douglas College. Marsha has helped to educate many students who are now front-line practitioners as Educational Assistants, Behaviour Interventionists and Community Support Workers. Prior to that, for 25 years she taught students with disabilities employment and life skills at community colleges and in non profit agencies.

Marsha has co-authored curriculum on support groups for FASD and was the driving force and creator of a provincial resource, The FASD Online Training Program, a collaborative project between the Victoria Foundation and Douglas College. As the project lead, Marsha and her team designed, developed and delivered an 8-module online program that included annual face to face workshops with agency staff and families throughout the province.

A long-time volunteer in various roles, Marsha was an active member of the FASD Collaboration Roundtable for over 10 years, and this is where she and Elizabeth first connected! Marsha is a member of the CANFASD Family Advisory Committee, supporting and collaborating with other family members and loved ones who have prenatal alcohol exposure. She also assists with facilitating the CanFASD Adults Self Advocate Committee and volunteers at a local social enterprise which assists individuals who are in addiction recovery. Marsha can also be found donating her time and energy at her church, whether in children's camps and youth groups.

Marsha is married to Steve and together they are parents to 3 adult children, one of whom has disabilities. She is also dedicated to supporting her youngest brother who lives with disabilities. A proud “Grammie”, Marsha can often be found playing with her grandchildren. Marsha is a traveller and a music lover and is always happy to share her stories of festivals and concerts visited!
