Marsha began her career as an Infant Development Consultant in a community-based family clinic in Ontario, where she stared her journey in supporting families by educating parents as they cared for their complex infants and toddlers.
Marsha holds credentials in Early Childhood Education, Teaching English as an Other Language, and she has a Master's Degree in Leadership. Her thesis work was on the design and implementation of support groups for families living with FASD.
Marsha has recently retired from Douglas College where she helped to educate many students who are now front-line practitioners as Educational Assistants, Behaviour Interventionists, and Community Support Workers. Prior to that, for 25 years, Marsha taught students with disabilities, employment and life skills at community colleges and non-profit agencies.
Marsha co-authored curriculum on supports groups for FASD and was the driving force and creator of a provincial resource, The FASD Online Training Program, a collaborative project between the Victoria Foundation and Douglas College. As the lead, Marsha and her team designed, developed and delivered an 8-module online program that included annual in-person workshops with agency staff and families throughout the province.
A longtime volunteer in various roles, Marsha was an active member of the FASD Roundtable for 10 years, and this is where she and Elizabeth first connected. Marsha is a member of CANFASD Family Advisory Committee, supporting and collaborating with other family members and loved ones who have been prenatally exposed to alcohol. She can also be found donating her time in her local community, at a nearby addition recovery centre and at her church. Her latest adventure has been serving in Costa Rica as a volunteer with children and marginalized women.
Marsha is married to Steve, and together they are parents to three adult children, one of whom has disabilities. Marsha is also dedicated to supporting her younger brother who lives with disabilities. A proud "Grammie", she can often be found playing with her grandchildren. Marsha is a traveller and music lover and is always happy to share her stories of festivals and concerts visited!
Never underestimate the power of a cup of tea!
